  • Unmanned Fire-X helicopter makes first demonstration flight
Northrop Grumman and Bell Helicopter say their joint project, the unmanned Fire-X helicopter, made its first demonstration flight in Yuma, Ariz., last week. The two companies teamed up in early 2010 with the goal of flying the unmanned helicopter within a year. The Fire-X retains the ability to be piloted, and the demonstrator was built on the commercial Bell 407 platform, then modified with computers and other systems from Northrop's MQ-8B Fire Scout.
